Social Finance arranges p2p student loans from alumni investors to graduate borrowers in the US. Currently students from 78 schools are eligable to apply for a Sofi loan in order to refinance their student loan debt. Social Finance says that it has generated more than 60 million US$ in loan applications and is on track to commit more than 200 million US$ in 2012.
Social Finance was founded only one year ago and now receives a staggering 77 million US$ series B funding from Baseline Ventures, Renren and DCM.
French p2p lending service Prêt d’Union raised 3.3 million EUR (approx. 4.2 million US$) in a new funding round from new investors (including Weber Investment, the holding of the two founders of la Financière de l’Echiquier and AG2R La Mondiale) and from its previous shareholders. The company has raised a total of 8.1 million EUR since its inception in October 2009. Along with PRÊT D’UNION’s founders, employees and private investors, the company shareholders are CREDIT MUTUEL ARKEA (34.9%), KIMA VENTURES (5.2%), Xavier Niel and Jeremy Berrebi’s fund (4,2%), Weber Investments (6.4%) and AG2R La Mondiale (2.9%).

With more than 2.5 million EUR of loans granted in less than six months, we are currently at a rate of over 1 million EUR of credit granted per month, which amounts to a monthly growth of 40%. This new round of financing, … , is an important milestone for PRÊT D’UNION. British p2c lending marketplace Funding Circle announced that they have raised 10 million GBP (approx 16M US$) from Index Ventures and Union Square Ventures. Funding Circle enables individual lenders to lend to establishes businesses in the UK. Since its launch a loan volume of 28.6 million GBP has been funded. According to numbers published by Funding Circle so far only 5 out of 686 loans have defaulted giving lenders an average gross yield (annualised, compounded return lenders are earning before fees or any bad debts) of 8.4%.

German p2p lending service Smava has raised 4 million Euro in a new round. New investor in this round is the largest Italian private bank “Banca Sella”. Smava also joins in on Italian p2p lending service Prestiamoci saying that Smava aims to grow to a leading European p2p lending service.
This is actually the second start Smava undertakes for European expansion. Smava Poland was merged after a rather short time in operation with another Polish service.
After this round VC Earlybird holds 54%, VC Neuhaus Partner holds 20%, Banca Sella holds 10% and the founder team holds 4% of Smava shartes.
In its press release Smava stresses its successful growth. However in the past year Smava had to deal with a significant decline in new loan volume funded per month.
P2P Lending service Lending Club has raised another 25 million US$ funding.
Union Square Ventures led the Series D round and joins Lending Club as a Board Observer. All existing venture investors participated in the funding round.

The new funding brings Lendingclub’s total funding to 77.7 million US$.
British Fundingcircle.com has announced the closing of £2.5m of Series A financing from Index Ventures, co-investors and existing shareholders.
Since Funding Circle launched in August 2010, more than 4,000 businesses and savers have signed up, with 11.5 million GBP offered to businesses to date. Currently, lenders have collectively earned 120,000 GBP in interest with average yields of 8.3% with access to their funds through Funding Circle’s secondary market. fee from lenders and 2% fee from borrowers. Yield is calculated before fees, tax deductions and bad debt. To date, no businesses have defaulted on loans and therefore no bad debt has been incurred by any lender.
